  10. Make ready Salt as required
  11. Get For the seasoning
  12. Get 1 Bay leaf
  13. Prepare 2 cloves
  14. Take 1 ” stick Cinnamon

Appam or aapam is a soft pancake made with fermented raw rice and coconut batter. It is a common tiffin variety in Kerala and Tamilnadu served with kurma or stew. Tamilnadu style easy Appam Recipe Without Yeast using rice and coconut. Appam is my sons all time favorite dish.

Steps to make Appam & Stew:
  1. Preparation —Chop all the vegetable into medium sized pieces or cubes. - - Finely chop onion, garlic and ginger. - - Use ready made coconut milk or extract coconut milk from 1 medium sized coconut.
  2. Method to make—Heat oil, add the ingredients mentioned under seasoning, saute for a few seconds, then add onions and garlic.
  3. Saute till onions turn transparent.(do not brown the onions)
  4. Then add ginger, green chilli and the rest of the vegetables.
  5. Add thin coconut milk, need salt and pepper powder. Cook till the vegetables are soft.
  6. Once the vegetables are cooked, add thick coconut milk and heat it a little.(Do not boil after adding the thick coconut milk)
  7. For flavor, heat a tsp of coconut oil, saute curry leaves in it for a second and add to the above. - - The consistency of the stew should be thin.

Appam with sweet coconut milk is something he can have everyday. Appam recipe is made with rice and fresh coconut with or without yeast.
